Shakyamuni Buddha is depicted in this Thangka together with the two main disciples as it appears in the most classical representations.

Buddha is seated in Vajra posture (Lotus position) on a white moon disc and Lotus seat above a throne supported by two snow lions.  His left hand is in the lap holding a begging bowl while the right arm is extented across the leg with the fingers touching the earth. 

Standing at the sides the two Bodhisattva: Shariputra on the left and Maudgalyayana on the right, both holding a begging bowl and a khakkhara staff.
